ERSEN SURURİ AND MUSIC AMBASSADORS

Ersen Sururi was born in 1967 in Nicosia. At the age of 12, he started studying Viola in İzmir State Conservatory. He participated in concerts of State Philarmony Orchestra and State Symphony Orchestra as soloist and violist. Took part in the 4th Famagusta Culture and Arts Festival, 1st Kyrenia Jazz Festival – also took part in the orchestra of Grammy awarded Billy Paul in the same festival- , 2nd Kyrenia Jazz Festival. Also took part with his own band as supporting band in the Ankara and Istanbul tour concerts of Billy Kobham. He Participated in Cyprus International Culture and Arts Festival and in many concerts as a member of the Kyprogenia group, composed of Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot musicians. Suriri is the responsible of Nicosia Turkish Municipality (NTM) Orchestras Unit and is the chief of NTM Jazz, City Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. Sururi is also the chairman and a founding member of Contemporary Musicians Association.

In this concert, he is going to take part together with Zeliş Şenol – with whom he participated in many concerts – and young Cypriot musicians who will one day become the music ambassadors of the territory he lives in. He plans to participate in many festivals and concerts with this orchestra. The group will present examples from Cypriot folk music as well...

Ersen Sururi’s pieces are in fact the presentation of traditional folkloric themes and an improvised contemporary stance.
